Next Stop, Easy Street! Tony Winner Faith Prince to Play Miss Hannigan in Broadway's Annie
Tony winner Faith Prince will take over the role of wicked orphanage caretaker Miss Hannigan from Glee star and Emmy winner Jane Lynch in Broadway's Annie. Prince will join the production on July 19; Lynch plays her final performance July 14.
Prince won a Tony Award in 1992 for her performance as Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls. She was nominated three other times for A Catered Affair in 2008, Bells Are Ringing in 2001 and Jerome Robbins’ Broadway in 1989. Her additional Broadway credits include The King and I, Noises Off, The Little Mermaid, Nick and Nora, James Joyce’s The Dead, Little Me and What’s Wrong With This Picture. Her off-Broadway musicals include Little Shop of Horrors, Falsettoland and A Man of No Importance. Prince also toured with the Tony-winning musical Billy Elliot. Her TV and film credits include Drop Dead Diva, Huff, Spin City, A Gifted Man, Happy Endings, Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, Faith, House, Medium, Sweet Potato Queens, Monk, Now and Again, Welcome to New York, Law & Order, Our Very Own, Picture Perfect, Dave and My Father the Hero.
“I had the wonderful experience of working with Faith Prince on Falsettoland, and I am thrilled that she will be joining the Annie company as Hannigan, a role she was born to play,” said director James Lapine in a statement.
In addition to Lynch, Annie stars Lilla Crawford as Annie, Anthony Warlow as Daddy Warbucks, Brynn O’Malley as Grace Farrell, Clarke Thorell as Rooster Hannigan, J. Elaine Marcos as Lily St. Regis and Sunny the dog as Sandy, as well as Annie orphans Madi Rae DiPietro as July, Emily Rosenfeld as Molly, Georgi James as Pepper, Tyrah Skye Odoms as Kate, Junah Jang as Tessie and Taylor Richardson as Duffy.
Inspired by the famous comic strip Little Orphan Annie, the features music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan. The production, helmed by Tony winner Lapine, opened at the Palace Theatre on November 8. The musical won a 2013 Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for Favorite Revival and picked up a Tony nomination for Best Revival.
